đź“ť Tell candidates: We demand real climate leadership!
With the 2025 federal election around the corner, we need all candidates to commit to meaningful climate action. That’s why we’re calling on them to support key policies that will phase out fossil fuels, strengthen environmental protections, and invest in a fair, renewable future.
📢 Our policy asks:
✅ A fast & fair phase-out of fossil fuels – Coal by 2030, gas by 2034, with clear timelines for ending fossil fuel exports.
✅ Massive investment in renewables – More jobs, lower energy prices, and relief from the cost of living crisis.
✅ Stronger environmental protections – Ensuring new developments consider climate impacts.
✅ No more fossil fuel subsidies – End public handouts to polluters.
✅ A just transition funded by fossil fuel taxes – Support workers and communities in the shift to clean energy.

Dear candidate for the Federal seat of Macquarie,Â
We are residents of the Macquarie electorate who want to see Australia take urgent, meaningful action on climate change.
The effects of climate change have led to our communities being increasingly ravaged by fire, flood and drought. Many of us have already been severely impacted, yet Australia’s climate policy is nowhere near good enough to protect our communities from increasing devastation.
We respectfully request that if elected, you consider and respond to our platform. In particular, we would like to know what your party's policies are and how you believe they will address the four priority actions set out in our platform:
- A Commitment to a fast and fair phase out in Australia of coal by 2030 and gas by 2034, including binding timelines for scaling down fossil fuel exports.
- Fast tracking investment and construction of renewable energy to create new jobs, bring down energy prices and alleviate the cost of living crisis.
- Strengthen the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act to consider the climate impacts of new developments.
- End handouts and subsidies for fossil fuels.
- Government commitment to increase taxes on fossil fuel corporations to fund a just transition to a safe, healthy, and renewable future for all.
If you are elected, we would appreciate a written response to this letter within four weeks of your swearing in.
Thank you in anticipation of your prompt response.
Yours sincerely,
People of the Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains.
